With special guest:

Why would a mother of two children living in the idyllic town of Merimbula on the south coast of NSW become an advocate for men and their children? Jasmin Newman is the right person to ask.

Jasmin tells us she was affronted by the lack of social justice towards men in our society where the pain of many men is ignored and dismissed as irrelevant. At the extreme end of this pain is the despair and hopelessness associated with suicide. We hear from Jasmin the truly extraordinary information that on average 39 men are recorded in the Australian statistics every week as “death by suicide.”

We salute Jasmin because rather than simply accepting this grim statistic she has done something about it. Jasmin is on the front line as a specialist men’s coach who supports men in all aspects of relationships, but specifically those who are going through high conflict separation and divorce. This is a life problem not only something to be categorised as a mental health problem.

Jasmin reports from the front line that the overwhelming majority of the men she helps daily are those battling Family Court matters. The issues confronting them seem overwhelming but when they speak out they are treated with disdain both by the Government agencies and the women’s groups so well-funded by the government.

It is amazing to any fair-minded person that there are no male specific suicide prevention services in Australia and there are no shelters for the large number of men suffering from domestic violence.

This makes Jasmin’s services so valuable. Only in these surroundings are men able to open up on their problems in a secure environment where there will not be the judgment and even ridicule they might expect if they reach out for help from other services.

We make a start today in changing the narrative of the media. If this does not change soon the number of male suicides, already 39 per week, is going to escalate.

Jasmin Newman is a very persuasive speaker on this all-important topic. Don’t miss it!
