Supporting Men and Boys in Tasmania

With special guest:

  • Jonathan Bedloe
… in conversation with Glen Poole

Jonathan Bedloe has been an advocate for men’s health and wellbeing for the past fifteen years.

Jonathan’s focus on men’s health and wellbeing has been a core passion since establishing a Men’s Shed in Hobart in 2005.

He previously worked for seven years as the Men’s Health Policy Officer with the Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services. Jonathan has held voluntary board positions with the Australian Men’s Health Forum, the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association and Tasmen.

Jonathan is vice-president of Men’s Resources Tasmania (MRT). He is a trainer, facilitator, collaborator and coach providing services in the areas of mental health and suicide prevention. He has spent six years delivering Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (A.S.I.S.T).

Jonathan is passionate about seeing improved support for the health and wellbeing of men and boys and is an advocate for growing the conversation about men’s health—both with men, and in the wider community and public sector.

Since 2014, MRT has expanded its membership, established a website, delivered presentations and consultations, held public events and contributed public submissions on policy consultations. It also continues to share current research, news and other information and resources with the community sector, to enable continued improvement of opportunities for men and boys.

MRT aims to raise awareness of social, health and wellbeing issues affecting men and boys. It believes all men are entitled to quality support to help them deal with whatever challenges they face in life.

MRT wants to help build bridges between men and boys and the services that can support them. With this goal in mind, MRT advocates to government and the community sector for improved services for men.

In this program we get to hear directly from Jonathan about the ground breaking work being done in the area of supporting men and boys which hopefully will spread from Tasmania to the rest of Australia.
